As we stand at the dawn of 2025, the world around us is transforming at an unprecedented pace. The "lame duck" phase of American politics might be ending, but the global landscape is anything but stagnant. Amidst these changes, one question becomes ever more critical: How are we preparing our children for this new world?

At Acton Academy, we believe that the traditional education system, with its roots in an assembly line model, no longer serves the curious minds of our children, in our modern dynamic world, who face a rapidly innovating future.

If you see what we see, here’s why parents like you ought to explore the Acton Academy difference:

“A Love for Learning,” first and foremost, instead of passive, compliant, standards-based education

Imagine a school where your child doesn't just go to learn but loves to learn. Far too often, when children are asked what they enjoy at school, answers revolve around recess and friends, not learning itself.

At Acton, we ask questions like:
  • "Is your child learning how to learn, instead of just what to memorize?”

  • “How can we make this more engaging?”

  • “Are they learning to solve problems that are important to them?”

  • “What does your child love learning about at school?"

Not just if they’re getting good grades, which is a problematic tradition that I believe is the foundation of the sense of entitlement that so many employers complain about.

We invite nuanced questions and conversation. This question invites children to think deeply about their educational experience. I found these self-reflective questions to be virtually nonexistent when I worked across 5 different school districts in Cincinnati’s Northern suburbs in the 2022-2023 school year.

We aim to change that.

At Acton Academy, learning is not about waiting in lines or following rigid instructions; it's about exploring, questioning, and solving real-world problems, independently and with peers, instead of parroting an adult whose ‘just doing their job’ of implementing standards and differentiating with labels instead of listening. It’s not the teachers’ fault though; it’s institutional, administrative, and broadly entangled across society.

Our environment encourages students to be curious, embrace failure as learning to grow quickly, and deeply engaged in their education.

Science-Driven Education

Ever wonder why there are so many people who question science?

Current educational practices often overlook the insights from developmental neuroscience. For instance, why does standard industrial education ignore the natural sleep patterns of adolescents when deciding school start times? Studies from Stanford Medicine and articles in Times.com advocate for later school starts, correlating better sleep with improved academic performance, emotional health, and even safety.

At Acton, we apply scientific insights to create an educational environment that aligns with the biological, psychological, and developmental needs of each child.

Fostering Resilience and Curiosity

The following questions I pose to parents are not rhetorical but reflective:

  • Does your child love to learn and grow, or do they love being right?

  • Is your child excited about solving tough problems with friends, or do they dread the challenge?

  • Do your children love to read, or do they resist it because of boring or unengaging content?

  • Does your child get to honor their body’s needs–snacks, potty, movement–or are they on track to be 18-year-old high school seniors, still raising their hand to go to the bathroom, at the same time that they’re applying to spend tens of thousands of dollars annually on college?

    • Do these concurrent realities seem appropriate to you?

These questions are central to our philosophy. We believe in instilling a love of learning where curiosity drives the educational journey. We want children to normalize play, embrace failure as a learning opportunity, and pursue their interests with passion. We want them to seek connection in conflict, understanding and presence in the face of big emotions, and move forward with courage.

A Vision for the Future of Education

  • How long will it take to evolve the education system from its industrial roots?

  • The ‘great debate’ of “The Old English system vs. Metrics” still hasn’t been decided, as far as I know, and traditional education still operates on an agrarian calendar. Why?

  • Will changes occur under the new administration, or will it take longer? How much can change in 4 years? What do the growing pains look like?

  • What about the overhaul of administrative structures and teacher training programs?

These are complex questions with no simple answers, but at Acton Academy North Cincinnati, we're not waiting. We're pioneering a new educational paradigm where:

  • Children are at the center of their learning journey.

  • Education is personalized, adaptive, and community-driven.

  • Success is measured not by standardized tests but by the joy, curiosity, and competence of our learners.

We invite you to imagine a place where your child's education is not just about surviving in today's world but thriving through it and into tomorrow's, where they’ll be the ones in charge. At Acton Academy North Cincinnati, we're not just keeping up with change; we're leading it.

Are you ready to see your child grow in an environment where they are excited about solving tough problems, where reading becomes a joy, and where learning is synonymous with loving what they do? Visit us, ask those nuanced questions, and see firsthand how Acton Academy is redefining education for the future.

Let's not just ask if our children love school; let's ensure they love learning, for in that love lies the key to a bright, adaptive, and fulfilling future.
