Acton Academy Here We Go!

We've been hard at work at building Acton Academy for Cincinnati and are thrilled to launch our Newsletter, “The Driven Learner”, with this first post to the site.

After numerous meetings and nearly signing a lease for a fantastic property, we're well on our way to opening our school, though the journey has been a steep learning curve in entrepreneurship.

Acton Academy Changes the World

Similar to our experience in entrepreneurship, for a learner, driving your own education is a completely world-changing experience. No longer is a child waiting for their “manager” to tell them what to memorize for a test.

After substitute teaching in 5 different local Public School Districts in the north Cincinnati area — the high-stakes testing, blank stares, and rote memorization — I knew we needed something different for our child.

Choice. Adventure. Agency. Autonomy. Freedom. Individuality. Heroism. Mastery. Collaboration…

There are many more words on the wavelength of these to describe Acton Academy and we’ve started this school to help children normalize them all.

Acton has already developed an industry-leading map, laid out with world class examples as guides, available to support us on our hero’s journeys of guiding the next generation to find a calling and change the world.

Creating Acton Academy North Cincinnati came from a desire to benefit our greater community by making a Learner Driven education available to other like-minded Cincinnati families.

This is a Call to Adventure for us.

The Call to Adventure where we're not just starting a school but transforming ourselves in the process remains clear and gets stronger.

Acton's model of Transformational Growth supports ambition without dictating steps, fostering true learner-driven education.

This school is being driven by us learning how to run and build a school. If you’re a business owner, I imagine you know what I mean.

This “Hero’s Journey in real life” reflects the transformational growth that Acton’s learning model provides.

There is support for ambition and guidance from experience, but there are no experts with requirements, directions, and a To Do list without virtue (context, choice, agency, and accountability).

The network makes all of this possible.

What a thrill!

Why wait until adulthood to “figure out how the real world works”?

Acton’s Learner Driven education sets the next generation up for success early on with deep foundational life skills and real life internships.

That’s what brings us together here, to this new newsletter, “The Driven Learner”.

This first post is just a “hello” to get the site started and invite you to subscribe to come along for the ride as we bring Learner Driven Education to north Cincinnati, Ohio.

Warm regards,
